Drugs and ammunition seized by Operation Vala Umgodi team

During police actions in Kimberley, the Operation Vala Umgodi team arrested a suspect for illegal possession of ammunition and another suspect for dealing in drugs.

WHILE conducting vehicle patrols and stop and searches in and around Kimberley on April 14, the Operation Vala Umgodi team followed up on intelligence-driven information in Homelite.

The police members arrested a 44-year-old man after he was found in possession of live rounds of ammunition.

Further investigation led the members to a residence in Phakamile Mabija Road, where rifle ammunition was found.

The suspect was arrested for illegal possession of ammunition.

In Galeshewe, a 35-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs when he was found in possession of crystal meth valued at approximately R12,000 and a sum of money suspected to be the proceeds of drug sales.

Both suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

The Northern Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, welcomed the arrests and commended the team for their dedicated efforts to combat illegal mining and other criminal activities.
