A CLINICAL forensic medicine specialist, Dr Esme Olivier, revealed the shocking details of the physical suffering that a nine-year-old girl suffered after being raped.
A 45-year-old man, Edgar Ndlovu, is standing trial in the Northern Cape High Court after he was arrested in connection with the rape of the minor child.
The J88 form, filled in by Olivier on January 18 and 19, 2019, describes how the child suffered tearing from her vagina to her rectum following the rape incident on January 17, 2019.
Olivier, who is the second of seven witnesses lined up to testify, relayed in detail the child’s injuries when she took the witness stand on Friday.
Olivier said she responded to a call-out at the hospital on January 18 to examine the girl, who, she testified, was in a state of shock, while her shorts were covered in blood. The child was also experiencing difficulty in walking.
Olivier is also a senior clinical manager at the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital, in charge of the examinations of assault and abused victims since 1998.
She said that the young girl had suffered a serious open injury to her private parts, which stretched from her vagina to her anus. She therefore had to undergo an operation to repair the damage.
Ndlovu has been charged with raping the nine-year-old minor in an open veld in Galeshewe.
According to the State, the accused found the girl in an open veld in Santa after she went to look for empty egg boxes.
He apparently told her to accompany him to a tuck shop but instead took her to Shoprite, after which he said she must go with him to the house of a woman who would assist him in withdrawing money from an ATM.
The accused then took the girl to the open veld behind the Galeshewe police station and allegedly raped her.
According to the State, he left the victim in the veld and walked away.
During the incident the accused is also allegedly threatened the child with a knife.
The case was postponed to today, when the trial will continue.
The State advocate is Keageletse Ilanga, and Acting Judge Amanda Venter is on the bench.
