SIXTEEN wheelchairs, 16 pairs of crutches, 100 food packs, 100 hygiene packs and 100 sweet packs were donated by Gift of the Givers to Lennertsville residents with disabilities.
The foundation’s Northern Cape co-ordinator, Emily Thomas, said they wanted to alleviate some of the struggles that those with disabilities face on a daily basis.
“Many of the beneficiaries have been dreaming and praying for a long time about owning a proper wheelchair or crutches. For a person with a disability, going about their day-to-day routine can be a huge struggle for themselves as well as for their loved ones who are taking care of them,” said Thomas.
“Some of the beneficiaries had wheelchairs and crutches that were in such a bad state as they were either broken or damaged. Borrowing a wheelchair or a pair of crutches to get around is part of the life of a person with a disability who simply cannot afford crutches or a wheelchair.”
