THE DEPUTY Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Bernice Swarts, will hand over the R4.9 million Louisvaleweg paving project in Upington on Friday.

Department of Public Works and Infrastructure spokesperson Kgomotso Mathuloe said the project was funded through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) Integrated Grant for provinces.

“A total of 60 work opportunities were created for the community during the construction phase,” said Mathuloe.

She added that the deputy minister, along with the MEC for Roads and Public Works, Fufe Makatong, and mayors in the ZF Mgcawu District and Dawid Kruiper Municipality, would also visit a cleaning and greening project as part of an imbizo.

“They will also visit the Labour Centre construction project site to assess progress made. A paving project in Hollyhock and Marigold Streets in Louisvaleweg will also be assessed.”

Mathuloe said a community engagement session would be held at the Progress community hall in Upington on Friday from 1 to 2pm.
