During an oversight visit to the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, Deputy Minister Dr Namane Dickson Masemola and Northern Cape MEC Bentley Vass, along with local officials, discussed governance and service delivery challenges while emphasising the need for essential services and sustainable livelihoods for residents.
THE DEPUTY Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Dr Namane Dickson Masemola, and the Northern Cape MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta), Bentley Vass, visited the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality on Tuesday as part of the Cogta ministerial oversight visit to district municipalities in the Northern Cape.
District and local mayors, councillors, municipal Speakers, South African Local Government Association (Salga) representatives, and the CEO of the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent joined the delegation to confront and address challenges relating to governance, financial management, service delivery and technical capacity shortages.
Vass emphasised the importance of municipalities in delivering essential services to communities.
“Every resident must have access to clean water, dignified sanitation, reliable electricity and a thriving local economy that generates quality jobs. Our goal is to promote sustainable livelihoods and create inclusive environments where all citizens can benefit,” he added.
The delegation will visit the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality on Wednesday.
