DUE TO the impact of Covid-19 in the country and the world, the Department of Employment and Labour will host its annual employment equity workshops through Virtual Microsoft Teams in each of the nine provinces under the theme: “Real transformation makes business sense”.

This year’s national series workshops/roadshows have been streamlined for each province to have a single session. The virtual workshops will start in Kimberley in the Northern Cape on October 5, 2020 and will end on October 20, 2020 with the stakeholders in Gauteng Province.

The objective of the workshops will be to publicise the status of employment equity in each province as reflected in the 20th Commission for Employment Equity (CEE) Annual Report; to solicit public comments on the published Draft Code of Good Practice on the Prevention and Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the World of Work; and to advocate for online EE reporting.

Department spokesperson Teboho Thejane pointed out that the target audience for the virtual workshops included the employer and their employer’s organisations; human resources executives and practitioners; EE forum members; assigned senior managers/transformation managers; academics; employees; trade unions; labour relations practitioners; and civil society organisations among others.

“The department will send an invitation to each province in order for the stakeholders to access the Virtual Microsoft Teams link before the actual workshop.”

The national workshops will be held from 10am until 12 midday.

The workshops also aim to create awareness on compliance with the Employment Equity Act, share the most current information and help prepare employers to submit accurate EE reports.

“In order to participate in the EE Virtual Workshops – please confirm attendance through e-mail to [email protected]; [email protected]

“The Microsoft Teams Link will be sent through upon confirmation of attendance a day before the actual workshop.”

Thejane added that the deadline for 2020 EE reporting for manual and online submissions opened on 1 September 2020.

“The manual submission will close on October 1, 2020 and online submissions will close on Januray 15, 2021.”
