THE NORTHERN Cape Department of Environment and Nature Conservation has temporarily closed its Kimberley office, situated in the Sasko Building in Long Street, due to a suspected case of Covid-19.

Department spokesperson Zandisile Luphahla said on Wednesday that the closure would allow for the decontamination and disinfection of the building. Employees will return to work on Monday, July 6.

“The building will be disinfected and decontaminated on Thursday, July 2. The Department of Health has been contacted and will be responsible for the management of contact tracing and testing of all officials who came into contact with the affected official.”

Luphahla added that senior management would, at all times, ensure that the department adhered to the prescribed preventative measures for the safety and well-being of staff, clients and service providers to contain the spread of Covid-19.

“The Employee and Wellness unit is also ready to give the needed psychological support.”
