The second leg of the mission was to the People’s Republic of China, where four provinces were visited by the delegation, namely Shijiazhuang, Dalian, Hangzhou and Shanghai.

In Shijiazhuang, the “name plate” for the joint co-operation centre between Hebei Geo University and KDJI for future SME development programmes, diamond culture exchange programmes and diamond training programmes in South Africa, was launched.

According to Jack, a MOU was also signed between Hebei Geo University, Sol Plaatje University and KIDJA for collaborations centreing around diamond industries, including the creation of the first bachelor’s degree in the world on diamond and jewellery development, as well as the creation of a joint short-term training programme on diamond polishing, cutting, evaluation, incorporated with trainings for the qualification of world renowned certificates such as GIA or EGL.

In Hangzhou the delegation visited the JC Group, which is a public company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

“Here a MOU was signed between JC Group and Blue Noze Resource (which is an incubatee of KDJI) for close collaboration on prospecting the primary mining potentials of identified alluvial diamond sites. The relationship is expected to be extended further into mining and local beneficiation, once viable prospection outcome is established.”

A MOU was also signed between JC Group and KDJI for future collaboration on SMME development and market access and expansion in China, as well as for KDJI to facilitate the alluvial prospecting project in South Africa.

The visit also included a tour of the operations of JC Group.

In Shanghai, the delegation visited the Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE), which is the official diamond trade platform and regulatory body. Here it was agreed to initiate dialogue between China and South Africa to encourage frequent communication by formal annual conference and exchange programmes. To this effect an Initiation Paper Signing Ceremony took place between the State Diamond Trader of South Africa, KIDJI and SDE.

The visit also included a tour of the operations of SDE

In Dalian, the delegation visited the Dalian Free Trade Zone and a Strategic Partnership Agreement was signed between Honglin Investment and Promethean Investments on the Northern Cape Development Corridor and Harbour Project.
