THE ANC Northern Cape provincial conference has been scheduled to take place on May 28 in the Namakwa district.

Branch members in the Frances Baard district are, however, intending to interdict the provincial conference and are challenging the outcome of the Frances Baard regional conference.

ANC regional chairperson in the ZF Mgcawu region, Abraham Vosloo, and the regional secretary, David Kazi, were meanwhile re-elected during the regional conference that was held in Upington this weekend.

During his address, ANC provincial chairperson Dr Zamani Saul warned members that if they decided to engage in corruption they would do so “at their own risk”.

“We are moving towards an ANC where there are serious and dire consequences for wrongdoing.”

Saul stated that if he was charged with corruption he would step aside and subject himself to the integrity commission.

He indicated that once the John Taolo Gaetsetwe regional conference had concluded, the ANC provincial conference would take place on May 28 in the Namakwa region.

The Frances Baard, Pixley ka Seme, Namakwa and ZF Mgcawu regions have already held their regional conferences.

Saul said that ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule had served to “confuse the ANC” when he issued a letter of suspension to ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa, where Magashule is expected to offer an apology for his actions and abide by the step aside rule.

“The role of secretaries is to ensure the organisation moves forward. It is the first time in the history of the movement that a secretary-general goes to court to challenge a decision of the national executive committee (NEC). The step aside decision was taken at the national conference. The NEC is supposed to implement that decision,” said Saul.
