The police in Colesburg seized dagga with an estimated street value of R20 000 after they searched a vehicle that overturned on the Phillipstown Plakkerskamp road on December 25.

SAPS Northern Cape provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the two suspects who were travelling in the vehicle sped away when the police tried to flag them down at about 3am during a Safer Festive Season Operations.

“During a high speed chase, the suspects allegedly lost control and the vehicle where it rolled several times coming to a standstill in the veld next to the road.

“Upon searching the vehicle, police members found the dagga inside the vehicle and arrested the two male suspects. The duo who sustained injuries, are under police guard in hospital.”

He added that the suspects were expected to appear in the Colesburg magistrates court on charges of the illegal possession of dagga and reckless and negligent driving.

The district commissioner for Pixley Ka Seme Major General Nomana Mtukushe applauded the Colesberg SAPS for their vigilance and commitment to keeping communities safe and secure during the festive season and beyond.
