THE MINISTER of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize announced on Wednesday that an additional 192 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the Northern Cape, bringing the cumulative total to 25 164 people.

This sees the Province breaching the 25 000 mark in terms of cumulative Covid-19 positive cases.

In a statement, the minister said there were two previously confirmed cases that were wrongly reported under Northern Cape which have been removed and re-allocated to the correct provinces as a result of ongoing data cleaning processes.

The number of total active cases stands at 2 473 in the Province.

In Wednesday’s report, ZF Mgcawu recorded the highest new positive cases (46), followed by Namakwa and Frances Baard with 45 and 41, respectively. Pixley Ka Seme recorded 38 while JT Gaetsewe (10) maintains the least daily new cases in the Province.

According to the statement, seven new Covid-19-related deaths were recorded: 6 from Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality, ZF Mgcawu and 1 from Nama Khoi Local Municipality, Namakwa district.

With these new deaths, the Province’s total cumulative deaths due to Covid-19 complications stands at 386.

“We convey our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the families and loved ones of the departed.”
