Covid-19 positive cases increase in the Province

The Northern Cape provincial government on Sunday said it has recorded seven new Covid-19 related deaths.

The number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 has risen to 4 961 cases in the Northern Cape.

The Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mhkezi announced on August 1 that the number of case loads across the country had surpassed the 500 000 mark.

The Northern Cape provincial government on Sunday said it has recorded seven new Covid-19 related deaths including three from the Namakwa district and four from the Frances Baard district.

“This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 36 in the Province. We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased.”

It was indicated that 17 people who are incorrectly allocated to the Northern Cape and would be reallocated to their respective province shortly.

“The number of recoveries currently stands at 1 515 which translates to a recovery rate of 31 percent.”

A total of 19 36 people have tested positive in the Frances Baard region with a total of 63 new cases and 19 deaths.

In the Pixley ka Seme district 72 new infections were registered with nine deaths and a total of 1557 cases.

In the John Taolo Gaetsewe district there are 55 new infections, four deaths and a total of 934 positive cases.

In the ZF Mgcawu district there are 25 new cases, one death and a total of 388 positive patients.

In the Namakwa region two additional cases were reported with three deaths and a total of 129 positive cases.
