Covid-19 infection rate in Province almost 25 000

110 people in the Northern Cape tested positive for Covid-19 on December 26 bringing the total number of positive cases to 24 791.

The provincial Department of Health said the new cases are less than the recorded positive cases recorded on Christmas Day.

“A total of 131 new positive cases were recorded on December 25, 2020. There were no Covid-19 related deaths recorded. The highest number of new infections were recorded in Namakwa District which had 33 new cases, Pixley Ka Seme district recorded 27 new cases, ZF Mgcawu district recorded 24 new cases, Frances Baard 20 and John Taolo Gaetsewe district recorded three new positive cases.

“The total number of people who have died from Covid-19 so far is 372,” said the department.

The department also indicated that the recovery rate in the Province is currently at 90%.

“There are 22 076 recoveries recorded. The recovery rate is currently at 90%. The number of total active cases is 2 339,” said the department.

The department urged residents to keep adhering to the Covid-19 regulations during the festive season.

“Everyone must wear a face mask properly when near other people or in public spaces. People must also wash their hands regularly for 20-seconds or use an alcohol-based sanitiser. Remember to stay at home if possible and minimise travel, especially to areas which are Covid-19 hotspots,” the department said.
