Covid-19 cases continue to rise in NC

THE NUMBER of positive Covid-19 cases in the Northern Cape continues to escalate, with the latest figure announced by the Minister of Health on Thursday night showing a daily increase of almost 80 people

According to the Minister of Health, the total number of people who have tested positive in the Northern Cape increased from 494 on Wednesday to 573 on Thursday.

The highest number of cases is in the Pixley Ka Seme District with 213 positive Covid-19 cases, while the Francis Baard District Municipality currently has 178 positive cases.

The ZF Mgcawu District has 95 positive cases, John Taolo Gaetsewe 36, while Namaqua has the lowest number of cases at 21.

The number of people deemed recovered currently stands at 232.

An additional 22 people, including a 16-year-old male and two people over the age of 60, tested positive in the Sol Plaatje Local Municipal area.

In the Pixley ka Seme district, a total of 41 people tested positive, with big increases recorded in the Umsobomvu, Ubuntu and Emthanjeni local municipalities.

The biggest daily jump was in the Umsobomvu Local Municipality were 23 people tested positive. This includes two young children, a four and five year old, and three older children, namely an 11 year old, a 16 year old and an 18 year old. One person older than 60 years also tested positive.

Ten people from Ubuntu Local Municipality, including a 12-year-old, and eight people from Emthanjeni Local Municipality, were also included in Thursday’s figures. One of those positive from Emthanjeni was a two-year-old child.

At least 12 of the latest infected cases are children under the age of 20 years, while at least six are over the age of 60 years, with the oldest being a 90-year-old from Thembelihle Local Municipality in the Pixley ka Seme District.

The full list of those who tested positive in the latest results is:

o Three people from Phokwane Local Municipality in the Frances Baard District: 26-year-old female; 28-year-old male; 39-year-old male.

o Twenty-two people from Sol Plaatje Local Municipality in the Frances Baard District: 16-year-old male; 28-year-old female; 31-year-old male; 32-year-old male; 35-year-old female; 36-year-old female; 36-year-old male; 39-year-old male; 45-year-old female; 47-year-old male; 50-year-old female; 50-year-old male; 52-year-old male; 54-year-old male; 56-year-old male; 57-year-old male; 57-year-old male; 57-year-old female; 59-year-old female; 68-year-old female; 70-year-old female; unknown male.

o Five people from Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District: 10-year-old female; 31-year-old male; 36-year-old male; 43-year-old female; 56-year-old male.

o Three people from Hantam Local Municipality in the Namaqua District: 19-year-old male; 44-year-old female; 67-year-old female.

o Eight people from Emthanjeni Local Municipality in the Pixley ka Seme District: 2-year-old male; 17-year-old male; 24-year-old female; 33-year-old female; 35-year-old female; 41-year-old female; 47-year-old male; 48-year-old female.

o Two people from Thembelihle Local Municipality in the Pixley ka Seme District: 58-year-old female; 90-year-old female.

o Ten people from Ubuntu Local Municipality in the Pixley ka Seme District: 12-year-old female; 25-year-old male; 33-year-old female; 37-year-old female; 41-year-old male; 41-year-old male; 50-year-old male; 51-year-old male; 51-year-old female; 65-year-old female.

o Twenty-three people from Umsobomvu Local Municipality in the Pixley ka Seme District: 4-year-old male; 5-year-old female; 11-year-old unknown gender; 16-year-old female; 18-year-old male; 25-year-old male; 27-year-old female; 27-year-old male; 30-year-old female; 31-year-old female; 33-year-old female; 37-year-old female; 38-year-old male; 38-year-old female; 40-year-old female; 40-year-old female; 41-year-old female; 44-year-old female; 45-year-old female; 46-year-old female; 53-year-old female; 56-year-old male; 64-year-old female.

o One person from Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality in the ZF Mgcawu District: 16-year-old female.

o One person from Kai !Garib Local Municipality in the ZF Mgcawu District: 56-year-old female.

o One person from Tsantsabane Local Municipality in the ZF Mgcawu District: 23-year-old female.
