Two cousins, Ricardo Jooste, 20, and Niklaas Jooste, 23, were sentenced to eight years imprisonment each for the rape of a 20-year-old woman, in the Carnarvon regional court on June 7.

“The 20-year-old woman was visiting the home of one of the accused in Carnarvon at the time of the incident.

“After consuming alcohol she went to bed and woke up the next morning and discovered that she was raped during the night.”

Kock said the accused were arrested and first appeared in court on March 5 2020.

“Both were denied bail while their DNA was linked to the crime. They pleaded guilty and were sentenced to eight years imprisonment for rape.”

The acting provincial commissioner for crime detection, Brigadier Nicky Mills, applauded the investigating officer, Sergeant Floris Fritz from the Carnavon Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for his sterling investigative work that led to the sentence.
