Samwu is demanding that a special council meeting be convened by Friday.
THE SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) is demanding that a special council meeting be convened by Friday in order to remove the acting municipal manager at the Sol Plaatje Municipality.
Samwu local chairperson Daily Semau stated yesterday that if the council meeting did not take place within the next 72 hours, the union would mobilise its members to embark on strike action.
“At this meeting, the Section 106 investigation report at Sol Plaatje Municipality must be adopted and implemented. Since the last council meeting we do not hear anything about this report, which should have been finalised a long time ago. This is in contradiction of the lip service that is being paid to clean governance.
“We will interact with the community to support us with this motion. If the chief financial officer has nothing to hide, why did she obtain an interdict against implementing the findings. Let the law run its course.”
Semau added that the acting municipal manager had walked out of the last local labour forum meeting that was held on August 27, “where there were issues that she had to address”.
Semau said that none of their demands had been implemented.
Sol Plaatje Municipality spokesperson Sello Matsie stated that these matters had to be discussed at the local labour forum meeting.
