Mothibistad SAPS on Monday managed to prevent a 27-year-old man from taking his own life after he climbed on top of a water tank at a reservoir.

MEMBERS of Mothibistad SAPS on Monday managed to prevent a 27-year-old man from taking his own life after he climbed on top of a water tank at a reservoir in Dikgweng village.

Police officers were mobilised to offer assistance while crime prevention members were keeping him calm and distracted him while trying to prevent him from jumping.

Warrant officer Pulane Monchonyane, responded immediately.

The warrant officer is a trained SAPS suicide negotiator and managed to convince the young man from taking his life.

JTG District Commissioner, Major General Johnny Besnaar, applauded members of Mothibistad SAPS for handling the situation in a calm and professional manner and Warrant Officer Monchonyane for the meticulous manner in which the suicide was prevented.
