Cops seize suspected stolen copper cables, suspect arrested

A CASE of tampering with infrastructure is being investigated after suspected stolen copper cables weighing 153 kilograms were found at the Samaria shanties.

Police spokesperson Captain Tessa Jansen said on Thursday that Sergeant Baard, who is stationed at Kimberley Social Crime Prevention, assisted by the the sector manager of Samaria, Sergeant Qashu, and their team inspected one of the shanties, where they found three suspects sitting around a fire on Wednesday, at about 9am.

“Upon the arrival of the police, the suspects started running but the police managed to arrest a 27-year-old man,” said Jansen.

“They went back to the fire and found copper cables weighing 153 kilograms and valued at approximately R11,456.”

Jansen said the suspects would appear in court soon.
