LAW ENFORCEMENT agencies in Upington successfully confiscated illicit cigarettes valued at R882,124.

The operation was carried out jointly by the ZF Mgcawu District task team, Upington border police, Public Order Police, and the K9 unit, in collaboration with the SA Revenue Service Customs.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said that members of the task force conducted thorough searches at three premises in Upington on February 27.

Their mission was to uncover and seize illegal imported products and their diligence paid off when they discovered the substantial haul of illicit cigarettes.

“They discovered and confiscated illicit cigarettes to the total value of R 882,124,” said Masegela.

She added that the successful operation sends a clear message that law enforcement agencies will continue their relentless efforts to create a safer community.

“The police will continue with disruptive actions to reduce the space for any illegal activities in the ZF Mgcawu District,” said Masegela.
