During Operation Shanela actions on August 30, officers confiscated significant quantities of drugs across various precincts.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela reported that the Upington Border Police, while patrolling the CBD area, acted on a tip-off about a man carrying a large amount of dagga at the Upington taxi rank. The suspect was apprehended after being found in possession of dagga with an estimated street value of R301,700.

In concurrent law enforcement actions in Keimoes, Kakamas and Augrabies, the police conducted stop-and-searches and house raids, seizing dagga, tik and mandrax tablets with a total estimated street value of R13,170. Six suspects, aged between 27 and 40, were arrested for drug dealing.

Sergeant Masegela said that Operation Shanela continues to play a crucial role in combating crime in the Province.
