A 34-year-old suspect has already appeared in court in connection with the murder.

THE MODDERRIVIER police are investigating a case of murder following the death of the police officer who was stabbed in the head by a suspect in Ritchie this week while he was conducting patrols to enforce the lockdown restrictions.

During the incident on March 31, the suspect was shot in the arm, above his elbow.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba yesterday confirmed that the SAPS member died on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old suspect appeared in the Modderrivier Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and will make a formal bail application on April 8.

A complaint has been registered with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate regarding the shooting incident, while a case of attempted murder has also been opened for investigation.
