An intensive search has been launched for the arrest of the third suspect and police are following leads
TWO MEN, aged 56 and 61, are expected to appear in the Pampierstad Magistrate’s Court today after they were arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba, said that the two men were arrested on Friday by members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit.
“It is reported that the girl has been raped since 2017 and she has been found to be pregnant. Three men have been fingered to have abused the girl at different occasions. Paternity tests will be conducted to determine which one of the suspects impregnated the girl. An intensive search has been launched for the arrest of the third suspect and police are following leads,” said Ramatseba.
He added that the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Risimati Shivuri, has assured the community of Pampierstad that the police will not rest or spare any resources until the third suspect is arrested.
“The arrests come two days before the launch of the provincial 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign and a day after the activation of the 72-hour action plan for the speedy arrest of the perpetrators,” said Ramatseba.
