THE POLICE in Douglas arrested three men just minutes after they allegedly fired off shots and attempted to rob a tuck shop in Breipaal on Tuesday.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the incident happened at around 4am.

Kock said that four male suspects allegedly entered a shanty in Breipaal, Douglas and shot and wounded a 28-year-old male victim in his arm.

“The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and set the shanty alight,” said Kock.

“Three hours later the same suspects allegedly fired shots inside a nearby tuck shop when they tried to rob the owner.

“The Douglas SAPS Detectives and Visible Policing units were attending to the first scene and immediately responded to the gunshots at the tuck shop.

“The four suspects fled on foot through mielie crops, but three of them were caught and arrested by the police.“

Kock said the police also confiscated a Baby Browning firearm and ammunition.

The fourth suspect is still at large and the police believe that his arrest is imminent.

“The suspects will be charged with attempted murder, robbery, arson and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition,” said Kock.

The three arrested suspects are aged between 25 and 35 and will appear in the Douglas Magistrate’s Court soon.

Anyone with information that can assist the police is urged to contact the Douglas Detectives on 082 301 9978.
