“The smell was too strong and it immediately crossed my mind that Molefe’s family has been looking for him. That is why I immediately went to call the councillor, Paul Kock, who called the police to come and help break the door open”

AN INQUEST docket has been opened for further investigation by the Roodepan police following the death of a 44-year-old Lerato Park man, Sampie Molefe, on Sunday night.

Police spokesperson Captain Bashoabile Kale said that the Roodepan police were called out on Sunday after community members reported a strange smell coming from a neighbour’s shack.

Upon arrival, the police entered the shack and found Molefe hanging from the roof.

Molefe was apparently last seen by his wife on Friday afternoon after she had asked the police to accompany her to collect Sassa cards for child grants from him.

A neighbour said yesterday that had she passed by the shack twice on Sunday before starting to get concerned.

Smell

“The smell was too strong and it immediately crossed my mind that Molefe’s family has been looking for him. That is why I immediately went to call the councillor, Paul Kock, who called the police to come and help break the door open,” said the neighbour.

Community members described Molefe as a good man who always showed respect towards everyone and they were shocked that he had committed such a deed

The neighbours said they did not realise that something was wrong when Molefe’s family came to look for him, as there were times when they would not see him for a while.
