THE OPERATION Vala Umgodi multi-disciplinary team, in collaboration with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), apprehended two men in Hondeklipbaai for contravening the Marine Living Resources Act.

According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam, upon the team’s arrival at the designated location on June 13, they spotted the suspects’ white Toyota Hilux and they requested to do an inspection with DFFE officials.

During the search, the team discovered 150 snoek fish in the vehicle, for which the suspects failed to produce valid permits. Additionally, a sum of money suspected to be linked to criminal activities was confiscated.

Two men, aged 18 and 28, were detained for violating the Marine Living Resources Act and are scheduled to make a court appearance in the near future.

The driver of the bakkie was also found to be operating the vehicle without a valid driving licence and was subsequently fined. The vehicle, which was believed to be used in committing a crime, was seized by law enforcement.
