DISCIPLINARY procedures have been instituted against a Sol Plaatje Municipality official after a local company was paid R80 000 for work that was done by municipal officials.

Municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie, confirmed yesterday that municipal officials had excavated and paved a sidewalk at 3 Molopo Street on September 11. The work was completed the next day.

According to Matsie, the paving needed to be repaired after a pipe burst.

A local company was, however, paid R80 000 for the work, which according to the order involved the excavation, repair of the driveway, paving and removal of rubble.

“The official is already facing disciplinary charges and this charge has now been added,” Matsie said.

He stated that the official, who works in the roads section, had been suspended.

“I can confirm that the work was undertaken by the municipality and this matter will be fully investigated.”

Matsie said the matter had not yet been reported to the police. “It is standard procedure that all cases like this one are reported to the police and criminal charges will definitely be done.”
