Colesberg man arrested for unlawful possession of firearms

The police in Colesberg seized firearms and ammunition and arrested a male suspect.

THE COLESBERG police arrested a man on a charge of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the suspect was arrested after he allegedly tried to sell the firearms at a guest house in the town.

“On Monday, February 28, 2022, at about 1.30pm, the police in Colesberg acted on intelligence about a male person who was alleged to be in possession of three rifles, two shotguns and one pistol. According to information, the suspect went to a guest house and attempted to sell the firearms. Members of the Colesberg police acted promptly and found the suspect in possession of the firearms and ammunition,” said Tawana.

He said the team was applauded for the arrest.

“The district commander of the Pixley ka Seme, Brigadier Nomana Adonis, commended members who were involved in the recovery operation of the firearms. The suspect is expected to appear in the Colesberg Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition,” Tawana said.
