THE POLICE in Colesberg seized crystal meth with an estimated street value of over R15,000 while conducting a static roadblock on the N1 on Saturday.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said a vehicle was stopped and searched at the roadblock and two suspects were found in possession of the drugs.

“The two suspects are expected to appear in the Colesberg Magistrate’s Court on July 18 on charges of possession of drugs,” said Tawana.

He added that the roadblock focused on the transportation of illicit goods, including stolen vehicles, illegal firearms, stolen livestock and drugs.

Tawana said that searches were conducted on more than 64 persons, 35 light motor vehicles and 13 heavy motor vehicles. “Fines to the value of R15,000 were issued to motorists for contravention of the Road Traffic Act.”

The acting district commander of Pixley ka Seme, Brigadier Nomana Adonis, applauded the police members for their efforts in fighting crime and bringing perpetrators to book.
