MEDICLINIC Gariep said it is thrilled to announce the inaugural Cansa Shades of Pink walk/run/cycle event, set to become an annual highlight in Kimberley. This year’s event will take place tomorrow, starting and ending in the Mediclinic Gariep parking area.
Spearheaded by Dr Chantele de Jager, a dedicated general surgeon and long-time advocate for the Kimberley Pink Walk, this initiative aims to raise awareness of cancer affecting women and promote women’s health in the local community.
The event is designed to encourage women to be vigilant about their health, recognise symptoms, and undergo regular cancer screenings for early detection. Additionally, it aims to raise much-needed funds for Cansa. While the focus is on women, Mediclinic Gariep welcomes men, women and children to participate in this worthy cause.
An impressive turnout is anticipated, with approximately 1,000 participants expected to join the 4.9-kilometre walk/run and 60-kilometre cycle events.
The entry fee for the walk is R100 per person, while cyclists can participate in the road or mountain bike events for R150 each. Registration will be open from 6am to 7.30am on the morning of the event.
All participants will receive an ID band for the lucky draws and the first 700 entrants will also receive a goody bag. The prize-giving ceremony, where the winners of the cycle races and lucky draw winners will be announced, is scheduled for 10am.
In addition to the main events, Mediclinic Gariep will offer free health services, including blood pressure readings, cholesterol screening tests, blood sugar screening tests, first aid, and breast examination screening tests.
Participants and spectators can also enjoy a Shavathon and various stalls selling refreshments.
Medical Gariep has urged the Kimberley community to show their support and turn up in pink for this significant cause. For more information, contact Denise Coetzee at 076 3510 065 for walk/stall enquiries or Vuyo Thati at 073 6016 667 for cycling-related questions.
Join in for a day of fun, health awareness and community spirit in support of the fight against cancer.
