ELIZABETH Conradie School in Kimberley was crowned the overall winner of the annual Frances Baard District Municipality (FBDM) Schools’ Business Plan Competition for 2022.
The prize was awarded during a ceremony at the Frances Baard District Municipality on December 9, 2022.
The Grade 10 learners received the award in the Tourism Category for compiling an exceptional business plan.
The other two top awards went to Grade 11 learners from Degania High School and Grade 10 to 12 learners from Northern Cape High School.
Spokesperson for FBDM, Tshepo Banga, said the competition is aimed at promoting tourism, business development and entrepreneurship amongst learners.
Banga explained that the competition has the potential of encouraging learners to think creatively about the role of information and communication technologies in tourism and business development.
He said the project has raised awareness and has impacted positively towards the development of tourism within schools in the district.
Banga said seven schools within the district participated in this year’s competition while high schools that offer tourism and business studies as a subject were the focus.
“The runners-up, sector winners and overall winners were announced at the awards’ ceremony.”
Grades focused on different sectors.
“Grade 10 focused on the Greening Project, Sport Tourism and Leisure and Recreation.
“Grade 11 focused on Tourism Routed, Adventure Tourism and Eco Tourism while Grade 12 learners had the Business Tourism sector.”
All participating schools who met the entry criteria qualified to receive a development incentive grant to the value of R5 000.
