PROFESSIONAL nurse Bongiwe Fortunate was selected as the winner of the annual Nursing Excellence Award as part of International Nurses Day celebrations at Mediclinic Kimberley and Mediclinic Gariep on Wednesday.

Mediclinic Kimberley and Gariep patient experience manager Denise Coetzee said Fortunate was voted by her peers as the winner.

“The award is a symbol of appreciation and recognition for the care she delivers to her patients and support she provides to her colleagues. We recognise that behind each excellent nurse is a team of great nurses,” said Coetzee.

She said that Fortunate was a surgical unit nurse who has worked at Mediclinic for the past five years.

She added that colleagues commended Fortunate for her leadership abilities and for being attentive to her patients.

“While we acknowledge that 2021 has been a challenging year for all health care workers around the world, we are excited to take this opportunity to shine the light on the nursing teams within our hospitals,” Coetzee said.
