SA EXPRESS has reassured passengers that flights to and from Kimberley will continue as normal.

SA Express spokesperson Mpho Majatladi said yesterday that while the airline had withdrawn from servicing routes between Johannesburg and George, as well as Johannesburg to Richards Bay, flights between Johannesburg and Kimberley would continue as normal.

Last week, acting CEO Siza Mzimela said the airline had also cut out the Durban hub and would instead be focusing on its Johannesburg and Cape Town hubs.

Mzimela said one of the challenges identified was that the airline had in the past “spread itself too thinly” and it would now focus on markets where its services are most required.

The airline has experienced operational hurdles in recent years, including the 2018 suspension of its fleet by the aviation authority over safety concerns.

It was also grounded for 24 hours recently by Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) over non-payment of debt of more than R71 million.
