Kimberley girls charm the world
THE KIMBERLEY Girls’ Choir recently participated in the European Choir Games which was held in Riga, the capital of Latvia, in the Balkan states.
The choir, consisting of 50 girls between the ages of 13 and 17 years, participated in the games which were held from July 16 to 22 and was also honoured to sing during the opening ceremony.
Only nine choirs were invited out of the 157 choirs from 30 participating countries to form part of the opening ceremony.
The choir from Kimberley participated in two categories, the Open Competition for Youth Choirs and the Open Competition for Folk Songs a cappella, achieving silver diplomas in both of them.
The girls also sang in a friendship concert in Riga, an event that gave choirs from all over the world an opportunity to give back to the host city.
Last year the choir also participated in the 2016 World Choir Games in Sochi, returning with two silver diplomas.
Awards were given from level 1 (entry level) to 10 (the highest level), while the Kimberley Girls’ Choir achieved a level 8 (78 percent) and level 10 (79 percent).
Choir conductor, Phyllis Goldblatt, said she was very proud of the choir’s performance.
