THE PUBLIC Service Commission (PSC) will host a citizen’s forum in partnership with Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality and provincial government departments on Thursday to address service delivery issues in Klein Mier at the local community hall, starting at 8am.

PSC head of communications Humphrey Ramafoko said the chairperson of the commission, Professor Somadoda Fikeni, and Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul would attend the event.

“The citizen’s forum aims to, amongst others, evaluate service delivery in the area, assess the delivery of specific service delivery programmes, improve participation in the planning and implementation of service delivery programmes and make recommendations on how to improve service delivery,” said Ramafoko.

He noted that the rural community in Mier were historically marginalised and denied the provision of basic services.

“The forum will enable the community members to engage with various institutions of government on issues affecting service delivery including water shortages, poor sanitation, lack of access to medical care services, poor road infrastructure, the high rate of crime and drug abuse affecting the youth and applications for identity documents and birth certificates.”
