ACCUSED Itumeleng Machabe, 24, will stand trial for the rape of two girls – aged 11 and 15.
The charges involving the rape of a 15-year-old girl that took place in 2021 and the rape and murder of 11-year-old Relebogile Segami were joined in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Community members protested outside the court building.
Relebogile’s naked body was found dumped in the veld behind the Northern Cape provincial legislature building on March 31, with a T-shirt wrapped around her neck.
Machabe was out on bail for the 2021 incident when he was charged with Relebogile’s rape and murder.
He abandoned his right to apply for bail.
The matter was postponed to May 19 for instructions from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Machabe will remain in custody.
