“We therefore humbly request the MEC for housing to please do him a little last honour that he might not get to even enjoy for very long.”

THE FAMILY of a retired South African Defence Force (SADF) soldier, who will be celebrating his 100th birthday on Sunday, are pleading for help as he is living in a dilapidated house in Stillwater near Riverton.

The family, consisting of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, indicated that while they were thankful that Ntate Boytjie Malefo, who was born on February 20, 1920, had been granted a blessed life for the past 100 years, they felt ashamed of his living conditions.

Khutsafalo Malefo said that her grandfather had honourably served the SADF during the tough apartheid era.

“As a family and community members we are not happy that such a man of his age and honour, at least according to us, celebrating a century of life, is doing so living in such a dilapidated house. This house might collapse on him at any time and cut short his long-lived life.”

She believed that the centenarian deserved a decent home.

“We therefore humbly request the MEC for housing to please do him a little last honour that he might not get to even enjoy for very long.”

The family has invited anyone and everyone to his birthday party to celebrate his milestone.
