POLICE Minister Bheki Cele will visit Upington on Wednesday as part of the Safer Festive Season inspection tour.

Police ministry spokesperson Lirandzu Themba said that the visit formed part of efforts by the SAPS to channel resources to areas where they are most needed, to ensure that the police “deal decisively with crime” over the holiday season.

“Minister Cele, together with the SAPS management team from national and the province, led by the acting provincial commissioner of the Northern Cape, Major-General Joey Kers, will assess the effectiveness of Safer Festive Season plans put in place, to ensure that residents and holidaymakers are and feel safe during the holiday season,” Themba said.

Cele will visit the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington on December 22, at 8am, and will inspect a roadblock on the N14 between Upington and Olifantshoek at 10am.

He will also visit the Kalahari Mall and the Pick n Pay shopping complex, as well as the taxi rank, in the Upington CBD at 2pm, followed by a community engagement in King Street in Paballelo.
