A CASHIER was sentenced to four years imprisonment for shoplifting goods from a retail store to the value of R216,991.

Hawks provincial spokesperson, Captain Tebogo Thebe, said the accused, Kelebogile Reginah Kgomo, was convicted on a charge of fraud on September 8 in the Kimberley Regional Court.

“She was accused of stealing an amount of R216,991.51 at a local retail store, where she was employed as a cashier. Kgomo’s modus operandi was to make refunds on false purchases and pocket the proceeds.

“The accused was found guilty of theft and sentenced to four years direct imprisonment. She was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.”
