FOUR suspects have been arrested at a house in Colville for alleged carjacking.

The four – two men and two women– were arrested yesterday at 2.30am by Sergeant Dikeledi Masiya, Constable Samuel van der Linde, Constable Portia Mpolokeng and Constable Marcelle Botes, who are all attached to the Visible Policing unit.

Police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said it was alleged that a 54-year-old male complainant gave a woman a lift. When he stopped in Barkly Road to drop her off, he was approached by two unknown men who forced him out of his grey Polo Vivo at knifepoint. The men drove off with the vehicle.

“The complainant alerted the police who immediately reacted. The tracking device in the vehicle led the police to a house in Colville where the stolen vehicle was recovered,” Gamieldien said.

“Four suspects, two males aged 32 and 33, as well as two females, aged 26 and 33, were found at the house in Colville where the stolen vehicle was located. It was also later discovered that the complainant’s firearm was in the vehicle at the time of the incident, and this was also recovered in the veld close to where the vehicle was recovered.”

The four suspects were arrested and are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of car hijacking.

The Acting Station Commander of Kimberley SAPS, Colonel Belinda Rikhotso, yesterday commended the members for their swift reaction in locating the stolen vehicle as well as recovering the firearm.
