THE PHOKWANE Action For Development organisation has demanded the immediate removal of an educator at Jan Kempdorp Primary School who is allegedly sexually harassing a Grade 7 pupil.

The chairperson of Phokwane Action for Development, Lebogang Banyatsi, pointed out that an educator should be dismissed if he/she was found guilty of committing an act of sexual assault against a pupil, student or employee.

He stated that the male teacher had allegedly instructed a female pupil in his class to kiss him and hold his private parts.

“The community feels that the educator should be dismissed on serious charges of misconduct and should not be allowed to work with vulnerable young girls. The employer must institute disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the disciplinary code and procedures within 24 hours,” said Banyatsi.

Northern Cape Department of Education spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe said yesterday that they were investigating allegations of sexual harassment at Jan Kempdorp Primary School.

“The department has a zero-tolerance stance on all matters that relate to sexual harassment or inappropriate relationships between educators and learners,” said Van der Merwe.

He added that the department was awaiting a detailed report from the school and had initiated a “full-scale” investigation into the allegations.

“Depending on the outcome of our investigation, the appropriate action and due disciplinary processes will unfold.”
