BY-ELECTIONS will take place at Thembelihle and !Kheis local municipalities in the Northern Cape on December 9.

According to the Electoral Commission (IEC), there are 1 937 registered voters in ward three at Thembelihle Municipality while there are 2 673 registered voters in ward three at !Kheis Municipality.

Both vacancies in the wards arose following the death of the councillor.

The list of candidates contesting the wards will be compiled and certified on November 23.

Home visits will be conducted on December 8 for the casting of special votes, between 8am and 5pm.

Voters wishing to apply to cast a special vote can apply at their local IEC office during office hours between November 23 to 27.

Applications for special votes can also be made online via the IEC’s website, www.elections.org.za.

Voters can also apply for special votes via cellphone by SMSing their identity number to 32249 at a cost of R1.
