ELECTION fever was running high in Pampierstad as voting got under way during a by-election on Wednesday.

Ward 3 at Phokwane Municipality is being contested by ANC candidate Trevo Conrad Madlala, EFF candidate Olebogeng Samuel Tumodi and PA candidate Lerato Patricia Makena.

The ANC won the local government elections in 2021 by securing 42.96 percent of the votes in council, where Tumodi won the ward with 47.99 percent.

A vacancy was created following the termination of Tumodi’s membership of the ANC.

He later joined the EFF.

The Phokwane Service Delivery Forum did not contest the by-election as they decided to back Tumodi.

Electoral Commission (IEC) manager Elkin Topkin said results could be available by around midnight.

“There are 1,800 registered voters in this ward.”
