Boyfriend to serve four years for knobkierie assault

A 49-year-old Northern Cape man was recently sentenced to four years direct imprisonment for assaulting his 34-year-old girlfriend with a walking stick in Hopetown.

AN ACCUSED, Themba Mcono, 49, was recently sentenced to four years direct imprisonment for assaulting his 34-year-old girlfriend with a walking stick in Hopetown.

SAPS Northern Cape spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the complainant had to be hospitalised in Kimberley for the treatment of her injuries.

“Mcono became embroiled in an argument with his girlfriend on January 16 and he brutally assaulted her with a knobkierie. The accused was arrested two days later,” said Kock

He added that the accused was sentenced to four years imprisonment for assault GBH on July 25 in the Hopetown Regional Court.

“He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.”
