The body of a four-year-old boy was found in a box, covered with a blanket, in Ikhutseng, Warrenton on Friday night.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba said the boy apparently left home at about 11am on Friday to go to a nearby tuck shop. “He did not return home.”

Ramatseba stated that the boy was reported missing by his family at the local police station.

“An intensive search was launched, led by Captain Fourie and the Warrenton SAPS.”

Ramatseba added that a 36-year-old suspect was arrested after the boy’s body was found at a house in Ikhutseng on Friday night.

“The motive has not yet been established. The suspect is not related to the deceased,” said Ramatseba.

“The deceaded has been identified as Thapelo Monageng.”

Ramatseba said that the suspect was expected to appear before the Warrenton Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
