The suspects were on the wanted list for various crimes, including robbery, theft, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft out of motor vehicle, business burglary, contravention of protection order, possession of drugs, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, shoplifting and assault common.

THE BARKLY West Detectives, under the command of Captain Brandt, traced and arrested wanted suspects who failed to appear in court after they were released on bail.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the suspects were expected to appear in the Barkly West Magistrate’s Court soon.

“They were on the wanted list for various crimes – ranging from robbery, theft, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft out of motor vehicle, business burglary, contravention of protection order, possession of drugs, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, shoplifting and assault common,” said Tawana.

Tawana said that the suspects, who were between the ages of 19 and 40 years old, were arrested during the early hours of Tuesday morning, August 31, in Barkly West.

“Some of the suspects were also wanted in cases related to domestic violence. The arrests of the suspects coincided with crime-prevention operations that were aimed at minimising gender-based violence.

“The suspects are expected to appear in the Barkly West Magistrate’s Court soon.”
