Authorities seized counterfeit and expired goods from tuck shops in Ritchie as part of the ongoing Safer City Operation, which also targets illicit drugs, undocumented individuals, and electricity theft.
THE SOL Plaatje Municipality’s Security, Electrical, and Environmental Health units, in collaboration with the SAPS and the Department of Home Affairs, recently conducted operations to seize counterfeit and expired goods from tuck shops in Ritchie.
Municipal spokesperson Thabo Mothibi emphasised that these multi-disciplinary efforts were aimed at enforcing compliance.
“The Safer City Operation has been in full swing for over a year and is steaming ahead in 2025. The confiscation of counterfeit and expired goods, along with the arrest of undocumented persons and those dealing in illicit drugs, are part of the illegalities being acted upon,” he said.
Mothibi added that the municipality’s electricity department was also on the ground to deal with cases of electricity theft as part of the broader enforcement campaign.
