Armed robbers raid city house


A large amount of cash was stolen before the suspects fled in the vehicle

POLICE in Kimberley have appealed to members of the public for assistance in the search for two suspects following an armed house robbery which took place in broad daylight.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Dimakatso Mooi, a case of house robbery as well as one of theft of a motor vehicle are being investigated following an incident in Anthony Street, Carters Glen, at around 1pm on Tuesday last week.

“The two men arrived at the home of Piet Gideon Nieuwoudt and held him at gunpoint,” Mooi said.

“They robbed him of a large amount of cash, which was stored in his safe, before they fled in a vehicle belonging to Stephen van Wyk, who was close to the scene at the time of the robbery.

“The vehicle was later found abandoned in Green Street.”

The two suspects are between 35 to 40 years of age. “One is about 1.6 metres tall, slender in build and dark in complexion while the second one is about 1.7 metres tall, slender in build and light in complexion. They both spoke Setswana,” Mooi said.
