ANC wins NC by-elections

The ANC won the by-elections that took place in the Thembelihle and !Kheis municipalities held on December 9.

The ANC won the by-elections that took place in the Thembelihle and !Kheis municipalities held on December 9.

Vacancies arose following the death of councillors at both municipalities.

At Thembelihle municipality ANC candidate Victor Siphowo Dolopi received 54 percent of the votes or a total of 655 votes followed by the EFF that obtained 441 votes.

There were three independent candidates that contested the by-elections including Evelynne Lynett Oliphant who received 41 votes, Suzette Eloma Madakane that secured 63 votes and Travor James Clemance Louw who received 29 votes.

There were a total of 1,994 registered voters and a 62,09 percent voter turnout.

At !Kheis Municipality, the ANC candidate Annaline Tobias won 51,57 percent of the votes or 856 votes.

Independent candidate Paul Vries was close on the ANC’s heels when he secured 744 votes.

Another independent candidate Alricko Lee-Shanon Smith obtained 57 votes while the EFF received three votes.

!Kheis municipality had 2,660 registered voters and a 62,93 percent voter turnout.
