Saul completed his studies last year but put the needs of the party first and only graduated this year
THE CHAIRPERSON of the ANC in the Northern Cape, Zamani Saul, has been awarded his Doctorate of Laws degree (LLD) in Public Law and Jurisprudence from the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
Despite completing his studies last year, Saul was only recently able to graduate after the initial date for this ceremony, scheduled for April this year, coincided with visits by high-ranking party officials to the Province, ahead of the ANC’s provincial elective conference in Colesberg.
“As the African National Congress in the Northern Cape, we would like to congratulate the provincial chairperson on this milestone,” said ANC provincial spokesperson, Naledi Gaetsewe, yesterday .
“He has proved that through determination and hard work anything can be achieved.”
Gaetsewe said that six chapters of Saul’s thesis would be published periodically in law journal articles.
“Most importantly, the thesis will also assist the courts in South Africa and the globe in the judicial interpretation of the notion of ‘meaningful engagement’ during the eviction of people living in informal settlements,” she added.
Saul’s LLD degree was preceded by two Masters degrees – Masters in Development Studies from the University of the Free State and Master of Laws from the University of the Western Cape.
