THE ANC Regional Executive Committee in the Frances Baard region has expressed condolences to the family of ANC veteran, Fikile Ezekiel Gemba, 82, who died after losing his battle with Covid-19.

ANC regional spokesperson, Tshepo Louw, on Wednesday said Kimberley-born Gemba, fought against the forced removal of the people of Majeng Village.

“He was a gentle giant of the struggle. He was a member of Seoposengwe party and later joined People’s Progressive party when the ANC was banned from participating in political activities. He was the first chairperson of the Pampierstad branch in 1996. He later became the first Phokwane municipal mayor of the transitional government after 1994. He participated in several committees that prepared for the incorporation of areas in the North West into the Northern Cape at that time. He also led Sanco in the sub-region of Phokwane.”

He added that Gemba was serving as a provincial executive member of the veterans league at the time of his death.

“Gemba was a dedicated and selfless freedom fighter. He was always at the forefront of the revolution.”
